Nantucket is a favorite home and vacation spot for the rich and famous, but what's it like for ordinary vacationers? We spent 5 days on the island to find out. From sailing along the coast with a local expert to exploring iconic lighthouses (like Brant Point Light), shops, and historical attractions (like the Whaling Museum), there's plenty to keep the entire family busy throughout the week.

With all of our travels to exotic locations and all of the adventurous excursions we undertake while there, we found ourselves falling into a false sense of security. But just because we have a professional guide and just because thousands of others may have done the same thing prior to us doesn't mean a particular activity is safe.

In what was certainly our most exciting travel day so far, our yacht captain took us to 3 Exumas hot spots: The Washing Machine, swimming in the middle of a shark feeding frenzy at Compass Cay, and playing with the swimming pigs on the world famous Pig Island!

On our first day at sea for our 5-day, private yachting trip through the Exumas island chain in The Bahamas, our trusted captain and guide took us to "Iguana Island" and the famous drug-running airplane wreckage off Norman's Cay. And what an exciting start to our voyage these adventures were!

Our recent trip to The Bahamas was actually a 2-part adventure, with the first 5 days spent in and around our private villa on Pink Sands beach and the following 5 days... sailing through the Exumas on a private yacht! The yacht charter had been in the works for months—it would be our first overnight on the ocean and certainly one of our most expensive trips ever. But little did we know just how risky such plans could be.

After seeing a momma and her calf put on a show when we visited the Marietas, we wanted more. We sailed off into the sunset with AllyCat Sailing Tours in search of whale sightings and the green flash.
