ILA brings our kids’ learning to life.

Our top priority is giving our kids the best education possible. Ignite Learning Academy helps make that happen. Here’s how.

[Hint: It’s online school, not homeschooling]

Brooklyn and Colt are getting an incredible world-schooling experience through our travels, but we still think it’s important to pair that with a formal curriculum from an accredited U.S. school. ILA is a private, K-12 online program that offers students around the world an incredible learning experience and unmatched flexibility for families.

And real teacher instruction is the foundation of ILA’s program.

When we tell people that our kids are in online school, they often cringe at the thought of having to manage their own children’s lessons during a busy workday, but that’s not even close to how this works. Every school day, our kids can sign onto their online classrooms and participate in live lessons along with their classmates. When our time zone, travels, or other activities prevent live interaction, our kids can simply watch the class recordings afterwords. And whether our kids are in the live daily lessons or not, their teachers are available for daily “office hours” and on-demand one-on-one instruction whenever students need it.

(Hey, remember those awful online school experiences we all had to deal with at the beginning of the COVID lockdown? That’s what happens when a school that’s built around in-person instruction tries to facilitate online learning. Since ILA is focused exclusively on online instruction, the experience is smooth, intuitive, and streamlined.)

Why We Love ILA

A real, U.S. private school education (without those private school prices)

Peace-of-Mind

ILA is WASC-accredited, NCAA course approved, University of California A-G approved, and aligned to national standards. The quality of instruction is at least as high as most in-person private schools—and students receive one-on-one and small group assistance, as needed.

Great, Certified Teachers

A school is only as good as its instructors and ILA employs some of the best. With smaller class sizes than alternative programs, they’re able to provide a higher level of one-on-one instruction to all students.

(We get free wifi on United flights, so our kids can join class from anywhere)

Tailored Curricula

At ILA, our kids feel known and cared for and are encouraged to thrive. Because they’re never pressured to move forward in their curriculum before building a solid grasp on the preceding skills, they never feel left behind.

Geographic Freedom

With ILA’s asynchronous learning model, our kids have the flexibility to work through lessons 24x7 and lean on instructors wherever needed. ILA works around our time zone and travel schedules instead of the other way around.

(Our kids read about it in textbooks and then visit it in real life)

Efficient Learning

Unlike most public schools, ILA doesn’t require our kids to spend 7+ hours per day in classes, nor do they force us to waste days or weeks every year fulfilling standardized testing requirements. Adequate time is invested in learning, leaving more time for social activities and real-world education.

(Culture, culture, culture. These experiences wouldn’t be possible without ILA.)

Incredible Communication

Our kids’ teachers are available via phone, email, and Zoom (ILA’s preferred method when teaching because it allows students to view the teacher’s screen and better understand the material being taught while engaging and collaborating with their peers). And whenever our kids can’t attend live, it’s no problem—all live classes are recorded for future viewing, if desired.

(It’s not in-person, but there’s still plenty of live face time.)

Invaluable Socialization

The biggest challenge with virtual learning is the social dynamic, but with ILA, our kids have almost limitless opportunities to engage with classmates through live classes, awesome virtual clubs, field trips, and other activities.

“Once we decided to transition Brooklyn and Colt out of our state-sanctioned program, I spent the better part of a year researching the best online schools. The only name that kept rising to the top of the list was Ignite Learning Academy. Their program literally checked every single box. Now that our kids are enrolled, Phil and I feel like they’re getting quality education and quality socialization—without us having to compromise the quality of our travel lifestyle.”
