And if you’re expecting a standard collection of Mexican restaurants, you’re in for a tasty surprise. In a city that’s long been a haven for ex-pats—where about 1 out of 5 residents isn’t even Mexican—the food scene here is just as diverse. So, to truly experience the flavor of SMA means embracing the varied cuisines that help put this city on the global culinary map.

We’re still here in the best city in the world (according to Travel & Leisure) and part of what makes San Miguel so cool is its eclectic food scene. So we’re taking a little break from filming our upscale restaurant tour to search out the great eats that were most recommended by locals. These bites may not be as adventurous as some of the street foods we just tried in Cebu City, but they’re bound to be every bit as delicious.

We’re back in San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato, Mexico, the hotspot that Travel and Leisure calls the best city in the world. And true to our mission of finding authentic experiences, we’re crashing in a downtown house, meeting up with a local to visit the mercado, cooking up a home-style Mexican meal, volunteering at neighborhood charity, and exploring some of the spots that make this town so unique.

On our recent trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, our incredible Inspirato host set us up with our first adults-only excursion to-date: a private tour of Cuna de Tierra, the Guanajuato region's first winery.

Rancho Xotolar is a family-operated “working ranch” that has been in the Morin Ruiz family for over four generations. Our family took an all-day tour and horseback ride through its rustic canyons just an hour outside of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
